“Ivy can be pretty invasive so it is usually considered a “weed”, but I think the leaves are beautiful and I just love how the vines grow over old things, like nature’s decorating committee.”
This collection was born out of quiet moments escaping adulting in my mum’s garden. While I chased the shade around the garden (and avoided my children!). My mum’s garden has a wild woodlands feel about it rather than a manicured staid atmosphere. I was inspired by the shapes and lines of the various leaves and flowers. I was equally drawn to the traditional flowers as I was to the ones considered weeds. Perhaps because I am myself named after a weed, well a wild herb, pennyroyal.
The shapes and lines in the hydrangeas, convolvulus and ivy were my favorite plants to draw and became the basis for this collection. My favorite way to create is to draw the shapes in black pen first and then add colour afterwards, often with watercolours. But for this collection I digitally coloured all the artwork.
