Mum’s Garden Collection
This garden inspired art collection NZ grew from quiet moments hiding out in my mum’s garden.
Sometimes, I’d chase the shade and escape adulting – while also dodging my kids! Her garden isn’t manicured. Instead, it’s wild and woodland-like, full of surprises. Because of this, I found inspiration in the shapes and lines of every leaf and flower.
Not only did the classic blooms catch my eye, but so did the so-called weeds. After all, I’m named after a weed – or rather, a wild herb – pennyroyal. So, every piece in this collection celebrates both the traditional and the untamed.
Inspiration
The shapes and lines in the hydrangeas, convolvulus and ivy were my favorite plants to draw and became the basis for this collection. My favorite way to create is to draw the shapes in black pen first and then add colour afterwards, often with watercolours, but for this collection I digitally coloured all the artwork.
